Post-Dental Treatment Care & Healing Guide | Dantoon Dental Clinic

Thank you for trusting Dantoon Dental Clinic with your smile. A successful dental procedure is only half the journey; proper aftercare at home ensures fast healing and prevents complications.

Whether you just had a painless root canal, a tooth extraction, or got your new braces, follow these expert aftercare instructions from Dr. Srishti Maloo.

1. Tooth Extraction & Dental Implant Aftercare

What to do after a tooth extraction to ensure quick healing and avoid dry sockets.

  • How to stop bleeding: Bite firmly on the gauze pad provided by our clinic for 45-60 minutes. Slight blood oozing for the first 24 hours is completely normal.

  • Do Not Spit or Rinse: For the first 24 hours, do not spit, rinse vigorously, or use a straw. This protects the blood clot and prevents a painful "dry socket."

  • What to eat after an extraction: Stick to a soft, cold diet (e.g., yogurt, ice cream, smoothies) for the first two days. Avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods.

  • Swelling relief: Apply an ice pack to the outside of your cheek (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off) during the first day.

2. Root Canal Treatment (RCT) & Dental Crowns

How to care for your tooth after a single-sitting root canal.

  • Eating and Chewing: Avoid chewing on the treated side of your mouth until your permanent ceramic crown is fixed.

  • Numbness: Do not eat anything hot or chewy until the local anesthesia wears off completely to avoid accidentally biting your tongue or lip.

  • Pain Management: Mild tenderness when biting down is normal for 3-5 days. Take your prescribed pain relievers exactly as directed.

3. Orthodontics (Metal Braces & Clear Aligners)

Managing your new smile and avoiding bracket breakage.

  • For Metal/Ceramic Braces:  Diet restrictions: Strictly avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods (like hard candies, nuts, or chewing gum) that can break your brackets and delay your treatment.

  • Braces pain relief: Use the orthodontic wax provided if a wire is poking your cheek.

  • For Clear Aligners (Invisalign):

    • Wear Time: Wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day for optimal teeth straightening.

    • Cleaning: Gently brush your aligners daily with cold water. Never use hot water, as it will melt and warp the plastic.

4. Tooth-Colored Cavity Fillings

Your composite filling is fully hardened the second you leave our clinic.

  • When can I eat? You can eat normally as soon as the numbness from the anesthesia wears off.

  • Tooth sensitivity: You might experience mild sensitivity to cold drinks for a few days. If your bite feels "high" or uneven, please visit the clinic for a quick 5-minute adjustment.
